Interior Wood: Design Inspiration
There's a particular kind of quiet that settles into a room built with real wood. Walls and floors rarely get the credit decks and docks do, but together they're the backdrop to every morning coffee and every rainy-day card game.
Here's a look at some of the projects we’ve helped build, and the moods each one brings into a room.
Modern Farmhouse
Rustic roots, tailored finish. This look leans on horizontal pine or panelling, paired with a painted trim in a contrasting colour, and a wide-plank floor a shade or two darker or brighter than the walls. It's warm without feeling undone. The kind of room that's just as ready for muddy boots as it is for company.
Calm and Simple
A room built for slowing down. Bare cedar or pine, left natural rather than painted, minimal trim, and a floor in the same tone as the walls so nothing competes with the view outside the window. Cedar's natural resistance to moisture makes it a practical choice here too, especially near an entryway or mudroom.
Classic Cabin
Pine from floor to ceiling expresses the many faces of knots on full display to ponder on a relaxing day inside. Still the most-requested look at the lake.
Mix and Match
EvPanelling carries most of the room, a single cedar or pine accent wall gives the eye somewhere to land, and the floor sits a shade apart from both. A good option if you don't want to lock the whole space into one material.
If you already know the look you're after and just need the materials, here’s what we offer for interior lumber.
White and Red Pine: Warm, affordable, full of character. The default cottage wall and floor.
Cedar: Similar warmth, tighter grain, naturally moisture-resistant. Good near entries and water.
Panelling: Clean, consistent, fast to install. Best for a more finished main space.
MDF: Smooth and paint-ready, the base for trim and wainscoting.
Flooring: We carry Kennedy Flooring's full line, so your floor tone can match or intentionally contrast with your walls.
There's no wrong answer here, only the one that suits how the space gets lived in and how much upkeep you're willing to sign up for down the road.
